Knowing the look and style of gown you’re going for will help narrow down the gajillion options that are available out there! Asking yourself 2 simple questions will help get you started on the journey.
1. Are you going for the conservative bridal look or do you want to show off those curves and sexy side?
An illusion long sleeve with a low neckline is an elegant way to add a bit of sensuality to your look. While a lace bateau neckline with a low back gives a modern feel to a traditional, conservative look.
2. What areas of your upper body do you want to accentuate?
Have you picked up your push-up game and want to show off that killer back? Or maybe you’ve been taking a few extra trips to Fight Club Boxing Gym and you want to show off those perfectly toned shoulders and biceps. Or maybe you want leave a little to the imagination.
What seems like the smallest detail can help make the biggest decision!
A strapless sweetheart neckline allows the attention to be more on the bride than the garment, leaving the décolletage bare and elegantly accentuating the bust with the sweetheart line. For brides with a larger bust, something with a thin crystal strap would offer a bit of extra support while adding a hint of moonlight twinkle to your look!
Something to keep in mind is that a strapless gown can only be lowered to approximately the bra line and still allow for right amount of support. Without a strap or a sleeve to hold the gown in place, the lower the back the less the front will stay in place, and vice versa. Queue #wardrobemalfunction! Avoid that and go for a long/illusion sleeve and lower the back as you please! Or, cover up to and show off those killer stems with some high slits!
No matter how particular your every day style might be, shopping for a wedding gown can open a whole new world of garments you may have never expected to love. I always advise my brides to keep an open mind and try on something different, however showing up with a game plan will help keep you from quickly becoming overwhelmed by options.
